Getting Started
What to Expect in Your First Driving Lesson
A calm walk-through of lesson one, from adjusting your seat to your first few minutes on a quiet road.
James Mitchell

Your first lesson is less about driving far and more about getting comfortable. Most of the session is spent building familiarity with the car and with your instructor.
Before the engine starts
You will set up your seat, mirrors, and steering position, then learn what each control does. Taking time here makes everything that follows feel easier.
Your first movements
On a quiet road you will practice moving off, steering gently, and coming to a smooth stop. Your instructor can step in at any moment, so you are never on your own.
A simple tip
Wear comfortable shoes, bring your permit, and arrive rested. Nobody expects you to be good at this yet, only willing to learn.
